Stephen Fabian has passed away
According to an announcement from his son on the Facebook fan page dedicated to him, legendary Ravenloft and Sci Fi artist Stephen Fabian passed peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, May 6th at the age of 95. His work on the Black Box was iconic and might be the reason many of us are still here. The stark black and white style defined the 2nd edition Ravenloft art and I will forever be grateful that he walked this earth.

Condolences, his art pieces off and on Ravenloft were extremely atmospheric and inspirational.

Such a loss. Fabian’s artwork shaped the way I visualized Ravenloft growing up. His black-and-white pieces weren’t just illustrations—they were portals into a hauntingly beautiful world. Rest in peace, master of shadow and line.

Re: Stephen Fabian has passed away
It's been so many years since I've visited this site. I was just texting with an old friend and we were reminiscing about some of the iconic art from early edition D&D. We were talking about how certain artists became so distinctive to a setting, Brom to Darksun, DiTerlizzi to Planescape, etc.
I ashamedly confess I couldn't recall Stephen Fabian's name from memory (I'm old and forgetful!) and came here to look it up. I'm sad to hear of his passing, but at the same time celebrate his achievements. How many people get to live on forever through their art?
