Ravenloft Live-Action

Post by Speedwagon »

See the link here my friends: https://deadline.com/2026/09/dungeons-d ... 237063967/

I gotta say, I'm stunned at the amount of Ravenloft stuff coming out. There's this live-action series that, according to this article, is written by John August (wikipedia page here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_August) and is supposedly following Strahd. Then there's the Warlock game, set to take place in Darkon. Then there's the collaboration with Ghostfire Gaming for a new Ravenloft adventure book (or some kind of book) once a year (with rumors that it will also be taking place in Darkon). Not to mention the Lamordia comics (Orphan of Agony Isle) before this and D&DOnline having a Lamordia expansion, and it's a lot.

I'm not complaining, I'm just (happily) stunned!

Suuuuuuuuuper nervous about this, since I doubt the origin story will resemble Elrod's and who knows what it might be. I know 2e is dead to Hasbro the new version is just so very different. Meaning in a horror game, this is the scariest thing I've read in twenty years. Chance to get shelved like the realms show anyway. This grumpy old man is going back to yelling at clouds now.

I'm not worried... because this will never happen. Just like the MtG Netflix series they've been promising for what a decade now?

Of course. If it does actually happen, I'll have the perfect popcorn bucket to watch with. :soth:

I remember in the days when the Kargatane site existed, there was a voting for who would be the best famous actor to play famous Ravenloft characters. I believe the most popular for Strahd was Robert Wagner. Well he was younger back then and it was based on the 2e (Dracula caped Strahd). Who do you think would qualify now as the long haired 5e Strahd Von Zarovich?

Jason Isaacs? Lee Pace? Michael Fassbender? Lars Mikkelsen? Nikolaj Coster Waldau? any other?

Netflix has become a meme when it comes to adaptations... Though, many of these memes devolve into outside culture wars. And well, much has been said about Hasbro.
That said, I presume this will either be them turning their take through Curse of Strahd as a script or an anthology using the reboot books as a basis and Strahd as a story anchor. Neither particularly grab me. But hey, this probably won't get as much hate as the Fallout TV show did by Fallout fans, right?

As for casting, I have no serious answer... So, I'll just say Tom Holland for a snarky giggle.

A forlorn format, revived in this era. Protect that meme, it is an antique.

I believe the actors were Timothy Dalton for Strahd, Lance Hendricks for Azalin, Jennifer Connelly for Ivana and Christine Baransky for Jacqueline...we were all young once. I don't know enough new actors to nominate today but Lee Pace can play anything. I think I'm with Gonzoron since everything seems to get shelved. My personal preference would have been animated I, Strahd.

Sam Witwer would be a good choice for Strahd.

I remember Timothy Dalton being in the list but wasn't sure if he was first, I think I had voted for him.
Christine Baransky for Jacqueline, didn't remember that but she looked really appropriate for the role.

Lance Hendricks yes looked good for Azalin, but I think I prefered Peter Cushing who I think was also a nominee.

Jennifer Connelly for Ivana, yes I remember that and I had voted for her too.

Sam Witwer for Strahd, I agree.

5e Harkon Lukas :)

or 2e/3e Harkon Lukas? :D

Seriously now Idris Elba should be great, I really like his deep voice, although I would like someone with a more angular face, looking more like the image in Darklords. So I guess Djimon Hounsou would be better.

For Dr. Rudolph Van Richten I believe Charles Dance fits the part.

Since this appears to be a fusion of I, Strahd and Curse of Strahd, I say cast me as Strahd. Hey, why not? I may be a ham, but I've played a vampire in a Halloween haunted attraction once.
