Did they eventually combine Kalidnay with Har'akir and Sebua in the end?
And what was the deal with changing the gender of the darklord?

No. It was Pharazia that got combined with them to form the Amber Waste cluster. I'm not sure the reasoning for tinkering with the gender in Domains of Dread. Was always curious about that. Regardless the gender fooling around never really changed how I felt about the domain.

The gender changing was because the folks who did the write-up of Kalidnay in Forbidden Lore didn't check with the folks who wrote the Dark Sun books on what gender Kalid-Ma was supposed to be; they just assumed it was a female. After the book was published they found out they had made a mistake so they switched the genders of Kalid-Ma and Thakok-An around to account for their original mistake when they updated the domain in Domains of Dread.

Thanks for the info. Were there products with Kalid-Ma in them in the Dark Sun line? Kind of like Vecena having been in prior Greyhawk products or Lord Soth in Dragonlance.

At the time Forbidden Lore was published, only Kalid-Ma's name had been mentioned but no details had been published. Later products and novels gave his backstory. I'm not versed enough in Dark Sun to know which products/novels, though.

its been a while and i don't have my books in front of me at the moment. but i believe his background runs along the lines of this: Kalid-Ma was attempting one of the ritual steps of becoming a "Dragon", the ritual backfired and turned him into a mindless beast that destroyed his city before being destroyed by the armies of the other cities. This happens before the Dark Sun year in the first setting book
on a related not check out this link for a article that combines both dark sun and ravenloft background for the setting.

The ritual backfired because of Thakok-An's devotion to--and lust for power through--Kalid-Ma to the point of sacrificing her entire family to try and ensure the ritual's success. Instead the surge of life energy--magic on Athas--became too much and Kalid-Ma was unable to control it. The result was a dragon that vomited up the obsidian orbs containing the magic and psionic power necessary for the transformation even as it went on a rampage. The other city-states attacked and destroyed the city of Kalidnay as Thakok-An and--possibly a copy of, maybe the actual--Kalid-Ma disappeared, drawn into Ravenloft where Thakok-An was made darklord for her part and Kalid-Ma remains in a coma, continuing to grant her the powers of a templar while ultimately denying her his favor and power.

I'm pretty sure the actual Kalid-Ma remained on Athas.

That's the same feeling I get. It would be fitting that Thakok-An is now stuck with a mere simulacrum she thinks is her liege and god and doesn't even know it.

Both fitting, and consistent with "Irik's" fake crypt in Darkon, or all those bogus "Blue Lady" sightings in Sithicus that used to drive Soth buggo.

In some Dark Sun book it was stated that Kalid-Ma in dragon form was killed by several other sorcerer-kings.
There is not much info about Kalid-Ma: there is some in Wanderers Journal (ie. Dark Sun Revised Campaign Setting), in module Merchant House of Amketch and in Psionic Artifacts of Athas.
Plus is some fan-made stuff from
www.athas.org.
