How much does Lord Jules know?

Do you ever think about how wild it is that Mordent is one of the only domains ruled by a normal dude? Like, not just 'not directly governed by the darklord'. Actively ran by central temporal ruler who is a perfectly normal human who isn't brainwashed by the darklord and isn't secretly a brain-in-a-jar.
Like, yeah, Godefroy started to get more involved behind the scenes in the last few years, but for the majority of the domain's history - and the majority of Jules' life -he was irrelevant.
So, he had to have business with rulers of other domains at some point - darklords included.
Do you think he realises he's surrounded by monsters?

Ruler of Lamordia is pretty regular guy to. His son got transformed in a Living Brain but rge father is technically still a regular dude. Jules, in my headcanon knows perdectly the world he lives in.

I believe his daughter runs the show now...
Prince Othmar is a regular guy too, even if he is evil to the core.
Tepest is run by many different regular dudes too, depending on the village, as are the villages/towns of Kartakass except Skald.
Nebligtode too except Graben Village...

I based my assumptions on VRGtR, which names Rudolph von Aubrecker as Lamordia's ruler. (I'm new to the fandom and still catching up on older editions' lore.)
I suppose Vilhelm died between editions and Rudolph inherited him?

In 2nd/3rd ed lore, Vilhelm von Aubrecker was the Baron of Lamordia. Just a regular aristocrat who likes hunting more than ruling. His son Rudolph disappeared, thought dead, in a boating accident in 712 BC, while his other son, Henrik, died in 739 BC. Rudolph was found by Victor Mordenheim, his brain removed from his body & kept alive. Eventually, the brain became aware of its surroundings, and, long story short, became self aware & conscious, developing incredible psychic powers. It basically took control of Victor & his young assistant. The brain had them build a receptacle for it, and then used the young assistant to transport it to Port a Lucine, where it became, eventually, the criminal mastermind known as "The Brain".

Back in Lamordia, the loss of the Baron's sons drained what little vitality he had left in him. As of the years 757 BC (Gazetteer 2), he's basically near death, old & senile. Looks like his young daughter, Gerta, aged 30 in 757 BC, will be next in line to take over for him. The very traditional, stuffy Lamordian aristocracy are none too pleased to have a woman possibly taking over the mantle of rulership (gaz doesn't explicitly say it's because she's a woman, but you can read between the lines).

The story of Lamordia's ruler is very different in 2nd/3rd vs 5th ed lore. Personally preferred the old lore vibe, as I did not like the idea of Lamordia's ruler being a machine with a brain. But again, 2nd/3rd Lamordia is a very different animal to 5th ed Lamordia. Also felt like she could have served as a new Darklord in case DM's ever wanted to knock off Adam/Victor. Tabula rasa with her, so she could have been developed however a DM liked.

Hope that helps!

I think this might be the most easily explained edition gap in the entire game.
- Baron Vilhelm finally dies
- The Brain hears the news and comes back
- The Brain takes over his sister and starts ruling as a shadow dictator
- The traditional, stuffy aristocracy thinks everything is better than a woman in charge, so no one bothers to ask the important questions.

The traditional stuffy aristocracy wouldn't know she is controlled, though, would they?
As a side note, those stuffy aristocrats are few. Lamordia doesn't have a big city with many nobles residing there, it is essentially a cold barony with large untamed areas. Sure, it has a town, but check the size: this is a backwater domain that values education, not an educated domain that values education.
I think in the Core (3e) Lamordia has like 3000-4000 people all together. I.e. the "stuffy aristocrats" would be 100 or so rich people spread in a very sparsely populated domain.
Even if one bumps Lamordia to larger size and population, it is presented as villages randomly peppering the wilderness, without any big cosmopolitan center.

Returning to the original question about Mordent and Lord Jules Weathermay - it would all depend on the year you are asking about. In the Gazeteer (3.5E), Godfrey had appeared to Jules, and even rammed his cane down Jules' throat - so Jules is aware of Godfrey, and considering Van Richten resided in Mordentshire, coupled with the death of his daughter (and her ghost) and his grand-daughters' chosen "distractions" - it's a sure bet that Lord Weathermay would be knowledgeable about some of the things that go bump in the night. However, by this time, it is difficult for him to speak of such things freely - he is either monitored by Godfrey (or one of his trusted ghosts), or his health limits him speaking - to inform PCs about the darkness surrounding them.
