Souragne/Chicken Bone question

Just looking for some general info on this NPC, what is his overall moral/ethical bent? In his write-up it says he has the power to grant meetings with Anton Misroi, so by this I would assume he's evil, or at least non-good. Does he have ambitions/aspirations of his own, or does he more or less keep to himself on his little island home, content to explore the spirit world and gain more mastery over his Voodan skills? Any good plot hooks involving this guy? Would he ever entertain goodly PCs and have tasks/quests for them to participate in? Are there other NPCs that could fill this role I'm overlooking? I'm tyring to put a little more punch into some Souragne content, but the information is sparse. I did find some very interesting and thought-provoking potential hooks in the Domain of the Month: Souragne thread:

Oooh! I just stumbled across a nice write-up of Chicken Bone, it looks like a paste from a sourcebook, so I'm going to assume this is official information. Can anyone confirm?

It appears that Russian website has copied and posted the 1993 2nd Edition MC Ravenloft Appendix II: Children of the Night word-for-word.

I know for a fact there is a Souagne "Sourcebook/Gazeteer" here on the frat, just don't know the link. Maybe one of the mods or more apt users can get you that link. It is really good btw.

Souragne Gazeteer, There's a Survey and a web enhancement for download there.

In a campaign about three years ago, I thought that Rock had a good handle on Chicken Bone's personality and goals, including ways to use the PCs to advance his own ends.
He pops up here:

And there's more of him in this chapter:

Your DM mileage may vary, of course.

As depicted in the source material, Chicken Bone is almost more of a plot device as much as an actual character, which is something of a shame. Like the Vistani, he has the whole "darkly neutral" thing going for him. If you look at the Book of Sorrows article "Simon LeFleur", you can get a picture of one of his examples. He seems to have something of an ironic sense of justice, like a monkey's paw.

Well then that's a little disappointing that he's a "master of mysterious and dark powers" yet only has 1HD and 3hp. I get that he's not supposed to be a physical confrontation, and that any PC stupid enough to strike him down would suffer all manner of retributions in the form of a curse and/or having every being in the swamp out to kill him, but still.... give the poor ol' guy a few class levels out of respect!

Oh, that is some terrific work. I've only read up to page 9 so far (and then skimmed ahead) but this looks to contain a wealth of ideas and hooks. Also, I much prefer this Chicken Bone as a 14th level Vodan with 63hp - at least enough to not get one-shotted by a lucky level 1 commoner. Thanks for the link, I really need to get better at exploring this site, I usually just use the forums and the Mistepedia function for general information. I feel like I'm only utilizing about 10% of the sheer awesomeness contained herein.

That was the 2e way. If you weren't
supposed to fight it, it was probably a "0-level human" Pretty much par for the course. Even several Darklords were that way.

Thanks very kindly for the compliment, and please, if there is any way we could make the site more clear or easy to navigate, let me know. Seriously, I'm always interested in ideas to get our resources to those who could use them. So as not to derail the thread here, you can send me a PM or email.. (that goes for anyone reading, not just
VikingLegion).
