To enact his revenge on [[the Nightmare Man]], [[Mikael Trient]] is using an [[Amulet of Bastellus Control]] to command a [[bastellus]] to gather [[dream energy]] in the hopes of taking out the Nightmare Man.<ref name="CotN: Ghosts p.71">[[Children of the Night: Ghosts]] p.71</ref>

The bastellus, meanwhile, has had other plans. It was drawing upon [[Rhianna]]'s latent [[psychic]] powers and nightmares in order to throw off its oppressor, but to no avail. Because of his enslavement of the bastellus, Trient is partially responsible for the death of [[Rhianna]].<ref name="CotN: Ghosts p.71">[[Children of the Night: Ghosts]] p.71</ref> It has also preyed upon [[Angus (Bastellus Victim)|a man named Angus]] and his brother.
