Karl Britter is the darklord of Jonenmark[1] and a corporeal (most of the time) ghost.[2] Britter does not realize he is either. Instead he is baffled by his condition of why he cannot die as was his intention. Britter is also cursed with an emotional pain of guilt and anger that gnaws at him, a pain that He has only solved by murdering bystanders via his energy drain.[3] With each kill he makes, his domain grows larger.[4]

In life, Britter was not always such a bitter or vile man. His desire for carnal pleasure was too great for him because he fostered an overwhelming number of children with his wife Elsa Britter, much more so than he could seemingly afford through legitimate channels. Britter began engaging in all sorts of criminal activities, up to and including murder of those who got in his way. Eventually his paranoia caused him to murder his best friend associate, Werner Bissel. It was only after his death did Britter realize the folly of his error. With no way to cover up the killing, Karl rushed home to began preparing an escape. However, as he saw his wife and many, many children, an expression of hate and shame overwhelmed him. He killed them all and then committed suicide, rising as a ghost shortly thereafter.[5]
