The Soulstone was a dark artifact of dread power formerly wielded by Baron Caidin, whom first learned about it from his darkling prisoner, Brinn. Using it, Caidin planned to stage a rebellion against Azalin Rex. With help from Lord Inquisitor Sirraun, Caidin set up a phony inquisition to weed out "conspirators" in order to claim lives for the Soulstone. The corpses of the persons killed by the stone became zombies to build Caidin's Tower of Doom, from which Caidin brought to life with the souls captured by the Soulstone. After Caidin died, the Soulstone was recovered from the ruins of his bell tower by Steffan.
