The Ata-Bestaal is a fictional secret society for the Ravenloft campaign setting of the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game. Based in G'Henna, they see being animals as existing within a purer state of being than being human. As such, they seek to become transformed into beast-human hybrids.[1]
Origins
They originated with a sect of heretics that saw Zhakata's curse of becoming a mongrelman as a blessing rather than a curse. (As such, they represent figures of fear for Yagno Petrovna.) However, they eventually desired something even more extreme. When they learned of lycanthropes, the group began actively looking for them to become infected with lycanthropy. When a few survived, they began spreading the dread disease to the other aspirant of the Ata-Bestaal.[2]
Structure
