Hate is one of the three elder, evil daughters Tsien Chiang and the sister of Spite, Scream and Nightingale. Hate is mystically linked to The Bell of Discord, which prevents her from permanent death or aging until the Bell is destroyed.[1]
History
All of Tsien Chiang's children were sired by different fathers of the highest noble stations, and Tsien Chiang murdered each of her husbands in turn after they failed to live up to her demands. Tsien Chinag took to putting her daughters' suitors against each other and arranging the demises of the survivors of such quarrels. Cruel and vile, Scream, Spite, and Hate all enjoyed seeing these deaths, though Nightingale fell into deep sadness. Every time she voiced objections, one of the sisters or their mother would beat Nightingale severely.[2]
Tsien Chiang eventually constructed the Bells of Evil and Lament, one for each her daughters to hold their respective souls (and a little bit of hers). The Bells kept the daughters from growing old, but it also made them puppets to her will.[3]
Tsian Chiang, along with her daughters and land, were drawn into the Mists after Tsien Chiang broke her oath of loyalty and slew the Emperor of I'Cath after he attempted to prevent the fourth beating of Nightingale. Scream, Spite, and Hate now exist as con-tinh (see the Kara-tur Monstrous Compendium Appendix, but with each of their life forces linked to their respective Bell instead of a tree.[4]
