The Phoenix was a Chaotic Good qabal of Gothic Earth.[1] It seems to have emerged spontaneously in 14th century[2] or 15th century Italy.[3] Some evidence suggests that a a former servant of the Red Death turned benefactor of humanity contributed significantly to the Phoenix's formation. The Phoenix managed to achieve many great ends, such as bringing about the Renaissance before being brought down by various servants of the Red Death. Such servants responsible for the death of the Phoenix included Niccolo Machiavelli.[4][5] (Note that the boxed set expressed Niccolo's involvement as a certainty, but the hardback version of the campaign setting render this only a likely and suspected possibility.)
As with many qabals of great power, the Phoenix included man famous people, particularly artists and scholars, among its ranks. Suspected members include Leonardo da Vinci[6][5] as well as Raphael, [[Brunelleschi, Piero della Francesca, Raphael and Michelangelo[5]
