In Curse of Strahd, the Order of the Silver Dragon is a group of vengeful revenants that lair at Argynvostholt in Barovia. They are eternal enemies of Strahd von Zarovich, but their hatred and undead nature makes them a danger to Barovia as a whole.[1]
History
The Order was once a heroic order of knights organized by Argynvost (disguised as a human noble Lord Argynvost) dedicated to making sure the evils trapped in the Amber Temple were never released or disturbed. Serving under Argynvost, Vladimir Horngaard acted as commander for the Order. Their headquarters was (and still is) Argynvostholt. However, when Strahd pushed his war against his enemies into the valley of Barovia, the Order became involved in the war, eventually coming to fight against Strahd's forces. The Order was eventually wiped out at Argynvostholt, but they soon thereafter were reanimated by Horngaard's zealotry and hatred for Strahd.[1]
Though he was slain, Argynvost's spirit also lingers on, after a fashion.[2] If his skull can be brought to his mausoleum at the ruins of Argynvost and sealed within (Q16), his spirit shines on the tower's top (Q53), the Beacon of Argynvost, to lay all the restless undead revenants to rest. The beacon can be seen from many locations within Barovia[3] Argynvost's skull is presently located in the Hall of Boens (Area K67) of Castle Ravenloft.[4]
