Desmond LaRouche was a young, idealistic physician who was raised, instructed and mentored by a version of the Hiregaard-Malken pair that is badly at odds with prior material. He would end up as a half-golem as the result of a confrontation with Malken and a subsequent life saving intervention by Dr. Hiregaard.

As a dread possibility, the Mudman of Bergovitsa may actually be Desmond LaRouche, an alchemist and physician formerly in the service of Tristen Hiregaard. Desmond’s research focused on the alteration and purification of the soul, a branch of research in which Hiregaard took a very personal interest. Unfortunately, an “accident” with the chemicals in his laboratory has left him in a pitiable state, and with a grudge against his former employer. Presumably Malken took a dim view on his efforts on the part of Tristen. Given his name and secondarily his profession, it is probable that LaRouche is from Dementlieu or perhaps Richemulot. Whatever the chemicals did to him, they presumably did not make him a half-golem.
