In Transylvania, those departed ancestors not properly honored during the Week of Rusalii arise as invisible, malignant spirits identical to odems. Once possessed, the victims of the rusalii can only be free through spells such as banishment or dismissal or a ceremony performed by the Company of the Dance.[1]
