Prior to 611 BC, the town of Kryoso was the largest community in the Principality of Sanguinia, largely due to its proximity to Castle Guirgiu.[1]
During the years of the Gray Plague and the extended winter which followed, Prince Ladislav Mircea retreated into his castle, leaving the rest of Sanguinia to fend for itself. Under the capable leadership of Alexandru Uzun, Kryoso endured. Therefore, when Prince Mircea eventually sent out an invitation demanding that the young noble men and woman of Kryoso be sent to Castle Guirgiu for a gala, the nobles of Kryoso were disinclined to heed the prince's whims. In retaliation, Prince Mircea sent his Ash Men to raze the town.[1]
Kryoso is now a ruin. It is also a Rank 3 Sinkhole of Evil with a Taint of Despair,[1] haunted by the ghost of Alexandru Uzun.[2]

The Gryphon Hill archive[3] indicates that Sanguinia was originally called Kryoso.
