Conquista is the second Domain visited in the series of reports written by the scholar Ciska on her reconnaissance of the Wartorn Cluster.
Conquista is a vast land, divided in three cantón's, of which only the northern and middle ones are at all habitable. Likewise, its human inhabitants are divided in three ethnicities: the Casians, the Canana and the Ulan, who generally dislike each other - often violently so.
History
The Casians and Canana each claim to have come to the land as conquerors, the Ulan in tow as slaves, and to have overwhelmed the other tribe as it was composed of barbarians.
Government
Technically, Conquista is a democratic republic, but the two largest political parties - prosperidad and supremacía - actively quash efforts by younger parties to advance, and once a Conquistan president is elected, there are almost no checks on their power. Only a president who is unanimously agreed to be a danger to the nation can be stopped, and that has happened precisely once in known history.
Troubles
Conquista is a land divided by racism, with the Casian (pink-skinned) and Canana (copper-skinned) tribes both claiming the other is descended from rebellious slaves that were once conquered by their ancestors, and the Ulan (dark-skinned) treated as slaves in all but name. Segragation and intolerance can be found everywhere, and the north and middle cantón have very adversarial relations.
While the country is borderline xenophobic, it is increasingly dependent on foreign trade because the only thing worth mining is the toxic black-oil, the raw material for fuel for the internal combustion engine. Horses and other equines fail to reproduce in Conquista, making vehicles a must, and Conquista walks a delicate balance between deceit and naked greed, as it fears the consequences if its trade behaviour lets on the local lack of ore.
