At what point does an unclassified magic item get classified as an artifact or, for that matter, a relic. Judgement call, really. To be an artifact, it has to be both powerful and unique. To be a relic, it's creation also has to involve the death of a very pious person. Either is beyond the power of mortals to make ''unless'' the Dark Powers lend a hand. At what point does an unclassified magic item get classified as an artifact or, for that matter, a relic. My thinking is if it is beyond the powers of mortals to make, which itself invites unpleasants questions involving immortal fey. For example, I don't see how one could really sit down and craft the Scroll of Return or, equally, the Transcendental Halo.
Judgement call, really. To be an artifact, it has to be both powerful and unique. To be a relic, it's creation also has to involve the death of a very pious person. Either is beyond the power of mortals to make unless the Dark Powers lend a hand.
