The perpetual temporal rule of the Vaasi nation by a royal family ended centuries ago when the role of king was replaced by that of prince and steward. Since that change the patriarchs of five noble families each enjoy a four year term as temporal leader of the Vaasi nation according to a rotating schedule named the [[Cycle of Stewards]].
