Mental illness research facilities, more commonly known as asylums, madhouses, or sanitariums, are places where madness is be studied by alienists and treatments for its cure are devised and tested. But they are also effectively prisons where the mad are locked up to prevent them from harming themselves and others.
The various asylums of the Land of Mists pursue many different methodologies. These may be grouped roughly into the following categories:
