Life bane moths[1] were once normal Barovian moths but were transformed by Strahd's foul magic rituals into life sucking undead. Humanoids are their preferred pray. When they attack, the use their elongated proboscis to drink blood. If enough blood is consumed, the victim is subject to level drain.
Note that the life bane moth never updated to 3.x Edition, so the creature types assigned below are speculative.
