The Gaunt[1] are often mistaken for flying ghouls, but they are neither undead nor scavengers. Rather they are a race of bestial humanoid with wings that only resemble ghouls in their appearance and predilection for human flesh. The Gaunt also benefit from much of the Enchantment Spells immunities real undead have, but the Gaunt's senses make it highly averse to light.
The savage bite of the gaunt is perhaps the biggest thing to be feared due to the crippling effect it has on the nervous system and the incapacitating pain it has on the subject.
Note that the Gaunt were never updated to 3.x Edition, so the creature types assigned below are speculative.
