The Ashen Man (so called because of his association with the cliffs of the same name is said to have been a passenger on a ship commanded by a ship captain belong to the Holsworth Family. The captain sailed his ship during stormy weather, and this ultimately resulted in the death of the Ashen Man. As the Ashen Man was prevented from seeing his bride (the Pale Lady, so-called for her wearing white when she committed suicide), the Ashen Man is said to have put the curse of the Yearning upon the captain and his family.[1]
