A resident of the Village of Barovia, Old Ivan was the father of Olya Ivanova[1] and one son of unspecified name. He was also the valet for the Kartova Family.[2]
The death of Olya in 475 BC[3] left Old Ivan overcome by grief.[1] He died ten years later along with most of the Kartova household when Count Strahd and his vampire associates attacked the Kartova cottage.[4] Alexi Petrovich and Martyn Pelkar impaled the bodies of the dead, making sure they did not rise as vampires.[5]
