The Visitor was a mysterious and sinister entity that engineered the murder of Benedek Durril and Sari Florica by Regold Durril. The Visitor thought that through these murders he could gain control over Graxxygak, a powerful ghost. After that failed, the Visitor attempted to get Regold to commit suicide as part of another ritual to gain control over Graxxygak.[1]

Supposedly an incubus and immortal[2], the Visitor's actual abilities represent more a human wizard.[3] He used a Brass-Ring Spellbook and a Cape of the Mountebank.[4]

History

The Visitor first came to Orașnou following the trail of Graxxygak. Despite being a newcomer in a rather xenophobic town, the Visitor almost immediately gained the respect of the villagers. They commonly came to him seeking his advice and assistance. Two of these help-seekers were Benedek and Sari, two lovers engaged to be married. They sought his approval and benediction for their wedding. They did get his attention, though he held no benign feelings toward them.[1] Although the Visitor may have held some infatuation for Sari[5], the Visitor viewed both Sari and Benedek as good sacrifices for a ritual to bind Graxxygak.[1]

To achieve his goals, the Visitor charmed Benedek's brother, Regold, and manipulated him into thinking Sari did not belong with Benedek. With envious wrath, Benedek murdered both Benedek and Sari. However, the Dark Powers deigned not to give the Visitor the control over Graxxygak that the Visitor sought. Instead, they would require a willing sacrifice- that is, a suicide. The guilt-ridden Regold, the Visitor decided, would make for such a suitable sacrifice. He thus planned a second ritual of binding in the ancient yuan-ti Vault of the Royal Dead.[1]

Sari ultimately rose as a ghost. Though confused[6], she led adventurers to the Vault, whereupon they confronted the Visitor and Graxxygak. Regold may or may not have died, and the ritual may or may not have succeeded. The Visitor may or may not have been killed.[7]
