Murder can be either extra-judicial killing of someone recognised in law as being very much like oneself. Or it can be the ethically unjustifiable killing of a creature. And often it is both.

The gratuitous killing of a peasant by a noble may or may not be a murder from the standpoint of law. It would be in Mordent where both nobles and peasant are recognised as being people deserving of the protection of law and of the state. It would not be in Nova Vaasa where nobles are recognised in virtue of their power as being the master of peasants who are recongised in virtue of their impotence as slaves to their betters whims.

The gratuitous killing of a peasant by a noble likewise may or may not be a murder from the standpoint of ethics. It would be in Mordent where the community values its individual members. It would not be in Nova Vaasa where right is might.
