Various ancient noble families exist in Barovia, going all the way back hundreds of years before the formation of Barovia as a Ravenloft domain. The feuding of the Dilisnya family, the Katsky family, and the Petrovna family in the War of Silver Knives from 314 BC to 316 BC weakened the nation enough to allow for the Terg invasion of 320 BC. Although Barov von Zarovich had to acquiesce the feuding families with more land in 316 BC, today all the noble families of Barovia are in stiff decline as their influence and wealth fades and their descendants move on to other realms in the Demiplane of Dread. Of the old noble families, only the von Zarovich clan has land titles in Barovia. The only other family to retain a central gathering of power is the Dilisnyas, whom have cemented power in the realm of Borca through trickery and intrigue despite being bitterly hunted in their home realm^[1].
