A Fhour Sythe[1] (Fhour Sy plural) appears to be a large eyeball with with clawed arms, batwings, and a serpentine tail. Their gaze causes paralysis and may cast spells as a 7th level Cleric or 12th level wizard. The latter need no spellbook, 
In 3rd Edition, they might cast spells as sorcerers.
It is speculated that they live by feasting on magic, for they seem to enjoy some benefits from spells not breaching their magic resistance. They are extremely territorial, with noted hatred towards humans, Lammasu]s, ki-rins, and reef giants.
Although clumsy fliers, Fhour Sy] are excellent swimmers and may travel to the Ethereal Plane and back. (Or the Border Ethreal when in Ravenloft.)
It is unknown if Fhour Sy have any relation to beholders, eyes of the deep, or other such eye related monsters. Note that the Fhour Sy] were never updated to 3.x Edition, so the creature types assigned below are speculative.
