Detective Sgt. David O'Neill is a member of the Boston Police Department. He is one of the lead investigators on a string of murders that resemble the Jack the Ripper killings in London. Although he accepts the power of hypnosis and mesmerism, O'Neill is a disbeliever in the supernatural. However, his sister Theresa A. O'Neill, is not only a believer but also secretly a qabalist. They live together in David's Home in Back Bay.^[1]
