A secret police that serves Count Strahd von Zarovich. They root out traitors, agents of The Kargat, spies, and members of the Cult of the Morninglord who conspire against Strahd. They also exist to keep the burgomasters and boyars in line.^[1]

Joining the Order is an arduous task. The Order maintains a number of gruesome training and testing sites that are specific to the way in which a potential recruit might serve the Order. They are as follows^[2]

• The Dark Grove: a testing site for priests
• The Great Oubliette, for soldiers and other martial types
• The Town of Forgotten Whispers, for arcane spellcasters
• Rogues and similar characters of guile and stealth train at an unnamed thieves' guild in the Village of Barovia and ultimately have to steal some objects from Castle Ravenloft.
