Dread elementals (referred to as [[Ravenloft Elemental]]s in [[2nd Edition]]] products<ref name="RMCI&II">[[Ravenloft Monstrous Compendium I & II]]</ref>) are elemental [[conjuration]]s gone wrong (in [[3rd Edition]], spells of elemental [[calling]]). Every time a [[summoner]] attempts to call a normal [[elemental]] into the [[Demiplane of Dread]], there is a chance that spell will spontaneously create a corrupted and macabre parody of the elemental. Dread elementals (referred to as Ravenloft Elementals in 2nd Edition] products[1]) are elemental conjurations gone wrong (in 3rd Edition, spells of elemental calling). Every time a summoner attempts to call a normal elemental into the Demiplane of Dread, there is a chance that spell will spontaneously create a corrupted and macabre parody of the elemental. As spontaneous creations formed from the Demiplane's mists, they are not extraplanar creatures and therefore cannot be held back by Protection Against Evil spells.
