The Stone was a Neutral Good qabal[1] that arose during the high point of King Arthur's rule of Camelot. Merlin is all but guaranteed to have been its leader. Throughout the Dark Ages a number of such qabals as the Stone would become united by Merlin and other similar leaders to strike against the Red Death and its minions. They achieved some considerable degree of success[2], but by the 10th century, the unity Merlin and his cohorts had strived for was lost. The servants of the Red Death had managed to turn the qabals against each other.[3] By the start of the first Crusade, the Stone had been dismantled.[4]

Although the Stone was gone, at least one group, the Circle, continued the Stone's legacy into the New World. However, the Circle itself felt its own catastrophe, in the form of the Salem Witch Trials.[5] Now only a relative few remain.[6] Another similar nigh-defunct group, the Brotherhood of Alchemae, also is a descendant of the Stone.[4]
