Natalya Zolnik

Natalya Zolnik is an NPC first presented in the sourcebook Darklords (Sourcebook) but later appeared in the module, Dark of the Moon. She lives in the woods of Vorostokov with her sister, Elena Zolnik. She is the daughter of Antonina Zolnik. Natalya and Elenia both hold a special hatred for their brother, Gregor Zolnik, for murdering their mother.

Biography

In the middle of a particularly harsh winter, Gregor Zolnik ritually consumed a wolf and wore its pelt to become a loup du noir. He used the power and skill of the wolf to save the people of the village of Vorostokov from starvation. However, this power ultimately corrupted him. After his first wife, Ireena Vladimir, committed adultery, Gregor went on a rampage and massacred her and many other people that inhabited the castle they resided in. This caused Vorostokov to become shrouded in eternal winter as a Ravenloft domain and Gregor to become a darklord. The year was 731 BC.

Gregor became cursed to never again bring back food from the hunt to feed his family, with one exception: if he hunted humans. Thus he became a ruthless serial killer, bringing back human flesh in the guise of some animal or another. Gregor's corruption touched his mother and sisters, for they began practicing witchcraft to support his dark designs. In fact, they cooked the tainted meat Gregor brought back. (This is the state of affairs presented in the Darklords sourcebook before Gregor killed their mother.)

In 754 BC, Gregor killed Antonina, turning Natayla and Elena forever against him. They abandoned him and fled into the woods, where they conspire against him to this day. (This is the state of affairs as of Dark of the Moon.)

In Dark of the Moon

The Zolnik sisters save the player characters from Gregor at one point. In return, they demand his destruction and are not above using magic to compel the player characters to ensure it.
