In the traditional Pharazian folktale the Garden of the Black Sheikh, Abdul is the lover of Asjanna. Abdul is also the victim of the Black Sheikh, having been transformed into a jackal to serve in payment for an outstanding debt of unspecified nature, according to the Black Sheikh. In order to free her lover, Asjanna confronts the Black Sheikh. The Black Sheikh offers her Abdul's freedom if she can pick him out from his other slaves, but should she fail, she too would fall into his service. Asjanna agrees, only to find out Abdul has been transformed into a jackal along with a number of other slaves.[1]
