Artificial Hibernation is a spell first introduced in Quoth the Raven, issue #25.
School: Necromancy Alchemist 5; Cleric 5; Sorcerer/Wizard 5
A Evil spell available to Alchemists, Clerics and Mages, Artificial Hibernation allows undead spellcasters capable of creating spawn to force that spawn into an indefinitely extended, nightmare-filled sleep. The master can waken the spawn from this slumber, but so can any other individual who chances upon it.
While the spawn suffers great psychological stress from the sleep, to the point that even the most vile are initially thankful to anyone who wakes them, their master benefits: as long as the spawn remains somnolent, they do not count against the maximum number of spawn the master can control.
