Transplantation is the replacement in living creatures of tissues or organs with their like. Competency in transplantation may well admit of application to the creation of non-living entities such as golems or undead, just as competency in the creation of non-living entities may have application to transplantation, but transplantation itself concerns a living recipient.

Transplantation is very far from being a reputable science in the Land of Mists with an exception or two. There is of course Bluetspur where even brain transplantation is not beyond the competency of the biomancers of that fell realm. Dr. Victor Mordenheim has achieved comparable results, but the shadow of the Dark Powers hangs over his discoveries such that the particulars of his work do not admit of repetition by others. Emil Bollenbach has produced lesser but still impressive results, transplanting successfully appendages (fingers, hands, feet and legs) and sense organs (ears and eyes). His madness, however, precludes the dissemination of his methods. Frantisek Markov may not be capable of brain transplantation, but he is an expert at extensive and exceedingly radical, interspecies transplantation, with the undesirable consequence of transforming the subject into a broken one. It is doubtful that he actually has the competency to effect intraspecies transplants devoid of this undesirable consequence.

In fact transplantation wouldn't be a science at all outside of Bluetspur were it not for the chiurgeon. Still, save for in Lamordia and in medical research departments, chiurgeons are not especially reputable. For it is not without reason that they are accused of being butchers.
