Descriptive Text

Fletch, my beloved hawk lay at my feet, dead. She had been sent plummeting from the evening sky by neither wound nor illness but rather the accursed shriek of a hideous bat of extraordinary size which had the gall to smirk down at its handiwork from an overhanging branch. Slowly I drew forth my throwing dagger, but the foul creature sensed the danger and spit forth its hideous cry. I froze in place and it swooped down at my exposed neck. In the moment that it would have cut me open, I twisted away and my blade connected solidly, knocking it from the air. Not a heart-beat was lost in silencing it forever.

- Gustov Petroff, hawksman and horse smuggler wanted for desertion from the Falkovnian army, recalling the loss of his friend and companion on the Old Svalich Road
