Jeffrey, while a young man, persuaded Dr. Rudolph van Richten to come to his hometown of Devering to investigate a number serial killings prior to the appearance of Van Richten's Guide to the Created in 739 BC. Jeffrey, van Richten, and the adventuring band known as The Hand effected the destruction of the Gibbering Golem in the asylum of Devering. Jeffrey joined the Hand and took up the study of magic.
