Witch owls[1] are huge, looming, sentient owls that hoard secrets and arcane knowledge. Their ancient age is marked by the creeking of their bones as they move. Mysterious arcane loremasters, witch owls have the spellcasting capabilities of high level diviners.
Although they are reclusive and solitary creatures by nature, witch owls seem to have a special affinity for spiders. A witch owl will often have several charmed spiders to guard its lair. Witch owls are even able to summon spider swarms as per the spell summon swarm.
Witch owls have mutual non-aggression pacts with drow and Vistanti, but the specifics of these agreements have been forgotten, at least by humanoids.
Note that the witch owl was never updated to 3.x Edition, so the creature types assigned below are speculative.
