Firal is the darklord of the Dread Elemental Domain of Blood. He continually seeks a cure for a blood disease that afflicts most newcomers to the domain. Unfortunately, his methods of research and treatment are quite callous. They involve the transfer of blood from the healthy to the bodies of the sick, even at the cost of the former's lives.[1]
Firal's origins lie on the planet of Krynn in the city of Palanthas. During the time after the Cataclysm, the gods had abandoned that world. There were no healers capable of producing divine magic, necessitating the application of mundane cures. Firal was such a healer, a skilled herbalist and surgeon. Firal's downfall came in the depths he sunk to to save his friend Jonah. Jonah had been afflicted with a blood disease similar to the one mentioned above. Firal resorted to the same means he practices today, murdering several of his would-be patients for their blood. His victims eventually rose as undead and came after him. Seemingly they tore him apart. Yet when he woke, he found he had entered a new realm.[2]
