Revision as of 14:10, 20 February 2016

A denizen of the Abyss, the chaotic Shadow Fiends can (in most cases, that is) thank their presence in Ravenloft by a gate spell or some other form of summoning. They are pitch black, vaguely humanoid winged creatures who are single-minded in their goal to spread evil wherever they go.[1][2]

While Shadow Fiends are true fiends given their Abyssal origin, they are unique among all outsiders in that they do not have a reality wrinkle.[1] Also unique to themselves is their association with the Dark Powers where they are said to work with them instead of against or around them.[2]Whether this is by a once mutual agreement or by force is unknown, but this presents a grave risk to even the most experienced of demon hunters. Another possibility is that they are somehow linked to and commanded by Ebonbane as his agents beyond Shadowborn Manor.[1] Regardless of the truth of the situation, being bound to Ravenloft and unable to leave it once entered makes the shadow fiends all the more spiteful and destructive.[2]

Shadow fiends can be encountered in the following domains: Falkovnia[3], Keening[4]

Errata

DDa Pg. 137/DDr Pg. 185

The middle of the first paragraph should read, "They require no sustenance, existing only to spread evil, fear and destruction wherever they go. Fortunately, however, they have lost their reality wrinkles over time"
