Al-Khymer[1] is a manipulative efreeti that once sought to impress the Grand Sultan of the City of Brass by manipulating his summoners into their ultimate destruction. If summoned into a conflict, Al-Khymer hoped to instigate the destruction of all sides involved. However, he was eventually defeated by Thalib al-Jahlah using a powerful scroll and bound into an Iron Flask until he performed no less than 101 services for humankind. Then Thalib left Al-Khymer at the bottom of an oasis out of sight and (hopefully) unable to be found. Al-Khymer made a promise to himself that he would cause 101 category:deaths instead. The Dark Powers heard his dark oath and brought his oasis into the Ravenloft domain of Sebua.
For a time, Al-Khymer languished in isolation, and his anger somehow bestowing healing abilities upon his oasis. Eventually, Pharazian travelers stumbled upon the oasis and believed it to be a mystical spot of good fortune. They rebuilt a temple around it. Al-Khymer has been manipulating Ymir into believing he is a benign but imprisoned spirit known as the Voice of Healer. Ymir has found Al-Khymer's iron flask, but Thalib al-Jahlah's Scroll is needed to free Al-Khymer. Abel, the high priest of the oasis temple, and all the other priests are unaware of Ymir's plans.
Al-Khymer is featured in the adventure The Power of Words.[2]
Phylactery
Al-Khymer's phylactery is an especially strong Iron Flask that currently serves as his prison. It is protected by a Spell Turning effect. Al-Khymer can only be freed by the use of a special password.[3] This knowledge is contained within a magical scroll created by Thalib al-Jalah.[4]
Reality Wrinkle
