Canon Information

Skeletons are sets of bones animated through necromancy. They can be found wherever magics are used to raise the dead, including the domains of Barovia[1][2], Darkon[3], Keening[4], Invidia[5], Hazlan[6], Necropolis[7], Nova Vaasa[8], Richemulot [9][10], Sithicus[11], and Staunton Bluffs[12]. Prior to its dissolution, skeletons could be encountered in Daglan.[13]

As undead, skeletons can be found in the domains of Har'Akir[14][15], Mordent[16][17], Sanguinia[18], and Valachan[19][20], As a type of undead that does not feed, juju zombies may be encountered in Keening.[21][22].

John W. Mangrum's Skeleton Lore[23]

Monster Manual

Characters with ranks in Knowledge (religion) can learn more about a creature’s skeletal nature. They need to make a separate Knowledge check to learn about the base creature. Characters who recognize a skeleton’s nature can make a Knowledge (arcana) check to learn more. When a character makes a successful skill check, the following lore is revealed, including the information from lower DCs.

Knowledge (religion)

DC 10: These walking bones are nothing more than the undead skeleton of a once-living creature, given independent life through foul magic. This result reveals all undead traits.

DC 15: Skeletons are mindless undead that retain almost none of the knowledge or abilities they possessed in life.

DC 20: Because a skeleton lacks soft tissues, it ignores exposure to cold, and most minor weapon strikes simply clatter off its dry bones. The most effective means of destroying skeletons is to simply smash them to pieces with bludgeoning weapons.

Knowledge (arcana)

DC 13: Skeletons can be created with a basic animate dead spell. They are often found in the service of necromancers or other masters of the undead.
