Marsal Ulok is a thief from Nosos and has an extraordinary immune system that allows him to fight off mundane disease generally and gives him far better odds than others against magical disease. It is noteworthy that the description of how Marsal acquired such a degree of immunity applies to most of the population in Nosos, so there is clearly something special in his biology. When Malus Sceleris exposed Marsal to a new and especially lethal disease he did not contract it himself but instead became a Typhoid Mary spreading it to others. Malus informed Marsal (falsely) that the disease is incurable (Malus has the cure), gleefully condeming Marsal to an existence in which he can only bring suffering and death to others.
