The Hiregaard Family owns the [[Borchava Duchy]] in north-western Nova Vaasa. [[Faerhaaven]], the seat of the Hiregaard Family, is a strong fortress that overlooks the [[Little Borchava River]].


Its patriarch is Duke Tristen Hiregaard, although his preferred title is Sir Tristen Hiregaard.


The Hiregaard family is one of the five families that rule Nova Vaasa by rotating the position of prince between their respective patriarchs in a process named the Cycle of Stewarts. In 729 Kethmar Bolshnik was serving as prince when he died in office. His son [[Othmar Bolshnik]] became prince in his sted, under the tutelege of a regent, Sir Tristen Hiregaard, at the request of his father. At the end of the Bolshnik term of office Sir Tristen Hiregaard stepped down but Othmar Bolshnik refused to do likewise, claiming that the regency had robbed him and his family of their turn. By remaining in office, Prince Othmar Bolshnik broke the Cycle of Stewarts. He remains in office today.
