In Spectre of the Black Rose, Ganelon receives a crystal orb from Malocchio Aderre to help him disrupt the rituals of Azrael Dak in the Veidrava Salt Mines.[1] Upon activation, the orb emitted a powerful beam of light that destroyed all the salt shadows in the Black Chapel. Unfortunately, it also destroyed Ganelon's three salt shadow-possessed friends- Ambrose, Ogier, and Kern, manifesting the curse that Inza Kulchevich had put upon Ganelon. Once it was used, it burnt out into a black quartz[2]
