The crystal talisman was a crystal taken from Yagno Petrovna's High Altar of Zhakata and used to housed the essence of the conjured demon Malistroi.[1] The talisman was designed to grant the ability to direct the actions of Malistroi[2] and therefore also to free him.[1] Although it was as Malistroi's phylactery a vulnerability[3], it also gave Malistroi a link to Yagno's darklord powers through its connection to the High Altar. This was the secret to Malistroi's transmutation of the Altered.[1]
The talisman was hidden in the Temple of Zhakata.[4]
