The Volgis is presumed to be used to float individual logs out of the lower reaches of the''Dyrskov'' and perhaps on to [[Bergovitsa]]. It is an important source of water for crops, humans, and domestic animals. Farmland stretches back from its banks from the edge of the ''Dyrskov''to its termination in the Ivlis. The farms on the west bank that have the ''Dyrskov'' at their back are narrow and have especially well fortified farmsteds. Given the horrors that can prowl out of either ''Dyrskov'' or Barovia, it must not be a reassuring place to live. Still, the horrors do help keep the bandit population to a minimum.

The Volgis River cleaves in twain the Dyrskov ("Beastwood") of Nova Vaasa, rushing down through the Vaesen Foothills from the nothingness of the Shadow Rift, which is to say that it has its phantom headwaters in the vanished land of Markovia. The Ivlis River is joined from the north by the Volgis, very close to the Barovian frontier, just north of the Old Svalich Road, ultimately draining into the the Nocturnal Sea halfway between Arbora and Egertus via the Storrokke Canyon.

The Volgis is probably fordible save for when it is swollen by meltwaters or heavy rains.

The Volgis is presumed to be used to float individual logs out of the lower reaches of the Dyrskov and perhaps on to Bergovitsa. It is an important source of water for crops, humans, and domestic animals. Farmland stretches back from its banks from the edge of the Dyrskov to its termination in the Ivlis. The farms on the west bank that have the Dyrskov at their back are not deep and have especially well fortified farmsteds. Given the horrors that can prowl out of either the Dyrskov or Barovia, it must not be a reassuring place to live. Still, such horrors do help keep the bandit population well in check.
