The Forgotten Hills are the steep and rugged southern foothills of the Mountains of Misery. Their southern limit constitutes in effect the northern frontier of northwestern Nova Vaasa. In 740 BC as part of the Great Upheaval this frontier, which had been shared with Arak, became one shared with Darkon. Superficially, there was no change. These foothills of the Mountains of Misery remained exactly that. But there were changes in the tone of the land. Its reputation of being fey haunted lessened with the passing of the years. Incursions by the fey into Nova Vaasa were greatly diminished and shifted to the west along, and in the vicinity of, the Tepestani border. Travellers who dared spend the night in the foothills and even the mountains beyond, no longer systematically failed to return. And those that did return had been beset at some point by things other than the fey. The Forgotten Hills became a hideout for especially brave of desperate bandits. And Darkon has undertaken the opening the Strigos Road from just east of Tempe Falls to Liara.
