Hanzi was a mortu (Vistani outcast) that became infatuated with Lela, a Vistani of the Moslavaric family. Despite Lela being engaged and the Moslavaric's antagonism towards Hanzi, he kept following them and trying to woo her. Later, after she was kidnapped by a vampire and turned into a vampire spawn, Lela kidnapped Hanzi and planned on using him as part of a ritual sacrifice to keep up the appearance of a mortal.[1]
