Growing to sizes of 20 feet or more and weighing up to 500 pounds, the dire eel is a dire animal and an unusually larger version of the smaller moray eel.[1] Anguillians can talk to dire eels, and anguillians make use of presumably domesticated dire eels in their patrols and other situations.[2]

Dire eels may be encountered in the Nocturnal Sea[3] and the Drowning Deep.[4]
